Introduction

The food we eat and the way it’s grown or produced, shipped, and sold have huge effects on the planet. Trying to eat and consume more sustainably needn’t necessarily be as complicated and expensive as you might fear.

Crowborough is in the fortunate position of having many high-quality producers of food and drink in the locality. In our directory, we have tried to identify as many local food and drink producers as possible. Every producer listed is within a roughly 10-mile radius of Crowborough.

Have we missed any local food heroes? Let us know!

Tips to Eat Sustainably

There are lots of resources on the Internet to help you eat more sustainable, for example from the WWF and BBC Food

Some of the main things are:

  • eat fruit & veg when it is in season
  • grow your own food
  • buy local fruit & vegetables
  • eat less meat (particularly red meat) & dairy products
  • reduce food waste (some tips – but also join the SLiC Facebook Group)
  • look for fish with the MSC label
  • cut-out perishables transported by air freight
  • reduce the amount of processed food you buy
  • look at the ingredients before you buy, look-out for items like unsustainable Palm Oil
